Histoire et explication de Stairway To Heaven

Stairway To Heaven figure sur le quatrième album de Led Zeppelin (qui ne porte pas de nom), sorti en 1971. Stairway To Heaven raconte l’histoire d’une femme qui gagne beaucoup d’argent. « Ce qu’elle touche se transforme en or » dit la chanson. Mais cette femme se rend compte que tout cet argent qu’elle accumule ne donne pas un sens réel à sa vie. Ce n’est pas cet argent qui la conduira au paradis, même si elle achète les « escaliers » qui y mènent.
Stairway To Heaven a suscité une polémique quant à la présence, en « backwords » (messages subliminaux), de paroles à caractère satanique, ce que Robert Plant, l’auteur des paroles, a toujours fermement démenti : « Des gens se sentent obligés d’inventer des conneries pour se faire remarquer ou vendre du papier. Il n’y a jamais eu de messages subliminaux sur Stairway To Heaven. Que ces gens s’amusent avec autre chose que mes paroles ! ». Pour Jimmy Page, Stairway To Heaven incarne l’essence même de Led Zeppelin : « Il y a tout ce qu’est Led Zeppelin dans cette chanson. Et cela va bien au-delà des paroles, de la musique, des solos de guitare. C’est à peine explicable mais ce morceau EST Led Zeppelin ».

Led Zeppelin est un groupe de rock britannique fondé en 1968 par Jimmy Page (guitare) avec Robert Plant (chant), John Paul Jones (basse, claviers) et John Bonham (batterie), et dissous suite au décès de ce dernier en 1980.
